Convention Notes and NAHJ Election 2010 To Open Up

Region 5 Members,

I wanted to touch base with you on a few quick notes before we hit the busy summer months.

1) NAHJ will be holding elections for half of the board, including all of the positions that aren't regional reps, and the student rep. If you want to be elgible to vote in the upcoming elections, you have to be a professional member of NAHJ to vote for the professional board spots and a student member to vote for the student rep position. If you haven't signed up or renewed your membership, you have until Friday, June 4, to do that.

All you have to do is go to www.nahj.org and sign up. Your membership will ensure you have a vote in the 2010 NAHJ Board Elections. For the first time in years, we have many contested races. So your voice and your vote needs to be heard. Here's a link to the candidates running http://www.nahj.org/2010/05/2010nahjcandidates/ Online voting starts June 11 and continues through June 26.The winners will be announced at the NAHJ Convention.

2) The NAHJ Convention is right around the corner. It's being held from June 23-26 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. It should be an exciting time and we are encouraging members, non-members, journalists and media company reps to attend. It still isn't too late to get a discount and sign up for the convention at www.nahj.org You can still reserve a room at the Hyatt Regency in Denver by calling 888-421-1442 or visit https://resweb.passkey.com/go/58947a0b We encourage you to attend. Tell a friend and get people to the convention. Find roommates and others to room together so you can enjoy the conference and a great time at the annual convention.

3) I really haven't heard much feedback for the regional conference lately. I believe it is time to go back to the Rio Grande Valley. I am leaning on making that the site for the regional conference next year. We need to start working on finding sponsors, volunteers and a location. I will coordinate that with the RGV group and the UTPA Student group.

That's it for now. I hope to see you in Denver. Remember for elgible voters, vote in the NAHJ Election and let your voice be heard.
