Successful NAHJ Region 5 Multimedia Conference in San Marcos

NAHJ Region 5,

Region 5 put together our first of three conferences for the next three months and it was a success. It all started with a challenge from the NAHJ Board to put on multimedia and regional conferences for our membership in regions. Of course, Region 5 was the leader and set the trend. While everybody else is talking about doing it, we did it and I am proud of the members who helped put it together.

Our first multimedia conference was planned today at Texas State University at San Marcos. Lots of stress leading up to it, but more than 30 people enjoyed the all-day conference. I was one of the participants and we had great time learning from our trainers. Great hands on opportunity and everybody seemed to walk happy with the experience.

I would like to thank Dr. Federico Subervi from Texas State who made this possible, Patricio Espinoza, our NAHJ board member from San Antonio, who put on a great class and the other trainers, our local and newest professional chapter, NAHJ Austin, for promoting the event and Michele Gonzalez, our Austin-based staff member, for helping us with registration.

The best part of this conference meeting with NAHJ members who are asking for me to plan a multimedia conference like this in other parts of Texas, including Austin, the Rio Grande Valley and Victoria. We will put them on the books for the fall and have contacts ready to get facilities donated to us.

Next we move on to our Region 5 Regional Conference in Houston on March 20 in one month (see attachments for schedule of events). We are getting help from Rice University for the campus facilities, the local Hispanic journalism group for our town meeting on Friday, March 19, and we are working on a sponsor already for the luncheon. We invited you to come to our Region 5 Conference at Rice University in one month.

After that, we will have our multimedia conference in El Paso on April 10. A similar conference to the one we did today, but we rescheduled it and I am sure with the amount of time available for members to plan for it, they will come.

Please stay in contact with us, follow us on our NAHJ Region 5 Facebook, Twitter accounts and my personal social media accounts listed below.
